The Third Game

Today I was up against Donna and Doug. I didn't know it at the time, but Doug went to Pomona with a couple of good friends of mine.

Here's a transcript of this game.

I didn't remember Donna making it so close until I watched it on TV. She was much better than I remember. And where the heck did she get that "Ides of March" answer? Here and here are 2 articles that Donna, who's a journalist, wrote about her appearance.

Donna got an opera daily double as the last clue of the game. Had she gotten that question right, she would have gone into Final Jeopardy with the lead. I remember at the time being really relieved that she got it wrong. But looking back now, knowing what happened in FJ, I would have won more money if she got it right—in second place I would have bet zero.

Final Jeopardy was particularly embarrassing to me. I've become a geek (okay, I probably always was one). I actually read the official Jeopardy message boards. On one of them someone referred to this as the most poorly worded FJ question so far this year. I disagree - I knew exactly what they were asking for, I just couldn't think of an answer that fit. But the correct answer was Coppertone, and Coppertone's made by Schering-Plough, and my sister works for Schering-Plough. So it was pretty embarrassing for me, and very embarrassing for her.

Thankfully Donna and Doug bet too much on Final Jeopardy, and so even though I got it wrong I still won. So...
