If you want to get in touch with me, my first name AT this domain name DOT net. (It's important to use .net - bobbygoldstein.com is owned by the guy who created the tv show "Cheaters".)

On this page you can see the all-time single-day records. I'm on this list for my first day. When I first wrote this, I was tied for 40th place all time on the list. That was before most of Ken Jennings' best days, so you'll have to do a lot of scrolling now to find me. Even so, that's a little less impressive when you consider that dollar values have been doubled since 2000. Then again, in my defense, I did $1 better than they're showing here, so I should be one notch further up.

Advice if you want to get on this show

If you know me email me (see above) and I'll recommend you for an audition. I originally wrote this because one of the things they sent me before I went on the show was a request for people I thought would make good contestants. Now, having done this a couple of times, I'm less confident of how much pull I have
If you don't know me, go to jeopardy.com and find the link where they'll alert you to auditions in your area.
If you live in the L.A. area, or are going to be there, use the same website and sign up for an audition at the studio.
Be patient. Sometimes it takes years to get on the show.
Here is a practice test. As I mentioned earlier, they wouldn't tell me how many you need to get right to pass, but the persistent rumor is 35. When I took this test I got a 40.
The bottom of this page has links to the contestant experiences of a whole bunch of people, and I found them REALLY helpful.
If you're actually on the show, don't ring in when you don't know the answer. I've seen so many shows where, instead of someone pulling away at the end, someone else presses, makes a bunch of dumb guesses, and plays their way out of contention.
Also, if you're actually on the show, BET SMART ON FINAL JEOPARDY. If you're in first place going in, bet an amount that will assure you of a win if you get it right. If you're in second place (assuming the third place person isn't a factor), and you've got at least 2/3 of what the leader has, bet either very little or nothing (basically, figure out what the first-place person will have if they get it wrong, and bet little enough that you'll beat that even if you get it wrong).
Have fun!

Am I a celebrity now?

Hardly. I've been recognized by a stranger exactly once, and that wasn't much of a stretch. The last two days the show aired, I was in Denver was at the national meetings of the nonprofit that I work for. Jeopardy airs at 3:30 in Denver, so we all interrupted the meetings to gather around the TV in the lobby to watch. The very last day a couple delayed checking in for a couple of minutes to watch, and they seemed to think it odd that such a large crowd of 20- and 30-somethings were gathered around a TV in the middle of the day watching a game show. So they asked someone and someone pointed at me. The man immediately came over and asked me if that was my brother on TV! It took some convincing to get him to believe it was really me, and then they demanded that I take a picture right next to the TV. Of course, by this time it was the commercial before FJ, and I knew I was going to lose, and I was somewhat reluctant to have them take a picture of the real me next to the TV image of me losing.

I have become that annoying guy who tries to work "I've been on Jeopardy!" into every conversation with people who don't already know it. Hopefully that will wear off. On the other hand, if you know me, you can help me with this by mentioning to strangers that I was on Jeopardy! so I don't have to.
